Standard bread dough (savory bread with shortening)
Recipe ID: 984237
Whole wheat flour bread dough
Recipe ID: 1026124
Hamburger patty, sunny-side up eggs, cheese, onions, lettuce, etc
Make the bread dough and do the first rising (until it is about twice its size).
If using a bread maker, put in all the ingredients except for the oil and begin kneading. After about 10 minutes, add the oil.
Divide the dough, then lightly deflate and round. Let rest for about 15 minutes.
Use your hands to lightly press down on the dough to deflate, then use a rolling pin to press it into a 9-10 cm disc.
If using a ring mold, grease the mold with shortening and place the dough inside.
Let sit for the final rising (about 30 minutes) until the dough increases in size by about 50%. (You can either do this in your oven on the dough rising setting at about 40℃, or at room temperature in the summer.)
Bake at 180℃ for 13-15 minutes.
If you'd like to top with sesame seeds, brush the tops with egg. (The top picture does not have sesame seeds).
You can make these even without a mold.
Cut in half, then fill with whatever you like.
This recipe makes about ten 9 cm buns.
This recipe can also make about six 10 cm buns (for 10 cm, I made my own rings).
Story Behind this Recipe
I made a lot of hamburger steaks, so the next day, I decided to make hamburgers.
If you want have a nice, round shape, you can use a circular mold for English muffins (9 cm diameter, 2.5 cm high). If making them by hand, cut thick paper into a cylinder, connect the ends with a stapler, and wrap the entire surface with aluminum foil. (For buns, make it about 10 cm diameter.)
