Ozoni (Mochi Soup)

Ozoni (Mochi Soup)

This is our family's time-honored recipe for ozoni (mochi soup). Since it's so tasty, we make it not only for our New Year's celebrations.

Ingredients: 3-4 servings

Daikon radish
1/8, medium
1/2 medium
Chicken thigh
about 150 g
☆ Dashi stock broth
800 ml
☆ Sake
1 tablespoon
☆ Soy sauce
4 tablespoons
Pre-cut mochi
3-4 pieces
1/2 bunch
Naruto or kamaboko
1/2 roll

1. These are the ingredients. Chop the daikon radish and carrots into wedges, and the chicken thigh into bite-sized pieces.
2. Put the ☆ ingredients and the daikon and carrots into a sauce pan, bring to a boil, then add the chicken. Skim off the surface scum.
3. Once the ingredients are cooked through, reduce heat to low, add the sliced naruto and mochi, and stew until tender.
4. Transfer to individual bowls, garnish with springs of mitsuba, then serve.

Story Behind this Recipe

This is the ozoni that I've been eating since I was a child. With stock from the chicken, it's super delicious.
It's a taste you want to enjoy all year long.
