My Daughter Loves These! Pork and Cheese Rolls

My Daughter Loves These! Pork and Cheese Rolls

Just roll and pan fry! So easy, so I put it in bento lunches. Season with soy sauce only or teriyaki sauce, whichever you prefer.

Ingredients: 14 rolls

Thinly sliced pork loin
14 slices
Individually wrapped Processed cheese
7 pieces
Sake
a small amount
Plain flour
as needed
For soy sauce flavored rolls:
Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
Coarsely ground black pepper
to taste
For teriyaki flavored rolls:
Soy sauce, mirin, sugar, sake
1 1/2 tablespoons each

Steps

1. This is the cheese I always use.
2. Cut each cheese cube in half lengthwise. You can use any cheese you like, of course.
3. Start rolling the pork. Spread it out with your hands, and lay the cheese on the wide edge of the slice.
4. Fold the edges in as you roll the pork, to cover the cheese.
5. Dust the rolls with flour.
6. Heat oil in a pan, and start cooking the rolls seam side down. When that side is browned, roll them around to brown all over.
7. I also cook the ends of the rolls sometimes.
8. Sprinkle sake, cover with a lid, and cook through completely. (When the cheese is leaking out of the ends a bit, they're done.)
9. When the rolls are browned all over, add soy sauce to season. Done. Add black pepper to taste.
10. To season the rolls with teriyaki sauce, combine the seasonings beforehand, and add to the pan when the meat is browned. Roll the rolls around in the sauce until they're glossy and well seasoned.
11. I put them in my eldest daughter's bento for a field trip. I diced the cheese and wrapped with thin strips of meat (it's next to the edamame on a pick).

Story Behind this Recipe

My mother used to pack this in my bento often.
