Make Your Own Meat Sauce!

If you make this following the key points in the instructions, the result will be a mild flavored meat sauce that really highlights the sweetness of the vegetables in it.

Ingredients: 4 servings

Ground meat - beef and pork mix
300 g
1 large (or 1 1/2 small)
1 small
Fresh shiitake mushrooms (if you have them)
3 to 4
1 clove
Olive oil
1/2 cup (100 ml)
●Bay leaf
●Canned cut tomatoes
2 cans (800 g total)
1 teaspoon
1 tablespoon
◎Japanese Worcestershire-style sauce
1 tablespoon

1. Chop the onion and shiitake mushrooms. Finely chop the carrot. Cut the garlic clove in half and crush with the side of your knife. Take out the sprout in the middle.
2. Put the step 1 vegetables and olive oil in a deep pan, and simmer-fry over low heat for 10 minutes. Mix from the bottom occasionally with a spatula.
3. Add ground meat and mix well. Cook for another 10 minutes.
4. Add the ● ingredients and cook over low heat for another 20 minutes. Stir occassionally with a spatula.
5. Add the ◎ ingredients and adjust the seasoning. When the sauce has reduced and is shiny, it's done.
6. Pour generously on top of pasta and enjoy!

8. How about this huge bento!
9. A hamburger rice gratin bento. (I put a hamburger steak, meat sauce, bechamel sauce and cheddar cheese on a bed of rice, and baked it in an oven!)

Story Behind this Recipe

This is a variation of my homemade tomato sauce recipe Recipe ID: 921800. The simmer-frying in oil process is the same. Even my second daughter who hates tomato sauce loves this mild and sweet meat sauce! I'm very proud of this recipe.
