Spam Musubi

Spam Musubi

I recreated the Spam musubi I had in Hawaii.

Ingredients: 6 to 8 musubi

1 can
Hot cooked white rice
3 to 4 rice bowls' worth (450 to 600 g)
Nori seaweed
to taste
1 tablespoon
1 tablespoon
Soy sauce
1 tablespoon

1. Take the Spam out of the can and cut into 6 to 8 slices.
2. Lay the Spam slices in a heated frying pan, and fry until browned. (You don't need to use any oil in the pan since the Spam renders oil).
3. Add the sake, mirin and soy sauce to make a teriyaki sauce and coat the Spam with it.
4. Cut the nori seaweed into strips.
5. Make rice balls (musubi) that are the same size as the Spam. (I used about 1/2 a bowl of rice per slice.)
6. I lined the Spam can with plastic wrap and packed rice into it to make the musubi. It was easy to make them just the right size.
7. Put the Spam on top of the musubi, wrap a strip of nori seaweed around the middle and it's done.
8. If you wrap them individually you can use them in bentos!!
9. I used this Spam.

Story Behind this Recipe

The Spam musubi I had when I went to Hawaii on vacation were delicious, so I bought a ton of Spam! I tried to replicate the flavor of the Spam musubi I had in Hawaii at home.
