Tofu Hummus

Tofu Hummus

I got the idea to use tofu to make hummus, which is usually made with chickpeas. I like this version because it's easier to make than the chickpea version and it doesn't taste grainy.

Ingredients: 4 servings

Silken tofu (538 g)
1 block
Tahini (sesame paste)
1/2 cup
2 cloves
Lemon juice
half a lemon
Olive oil
1 tablespoon
3 tablespoons
1-2 teaspoons


1. Thoroughly drain the moisture from the tofu. I usually microwave it for 1-2 minutes and then wrap it in a paper towel, followed by a newspaper, and then I place something heavy on top.
2. Put all of the ingredients into a food processor and blend until the garlic is no longer grainy. Then it's done!
3. Tahini is a type of sesame paste used in the Middle East. I think it's somewhat lighter than Japanese sesame paste. If you don't want it to taste too much like sesame, then decrease the amount of sesame paste used.

Story Behind this Recipe

I made some falafel with soy beans, so I started thinking, couldn't I make hummus with soy beans too? Then I made it with tofu! If you make it this way, it's easy to make even in Japan.
