Spicy Fried Plantains / Sweet Potato

Spicy Fried Plantains / Sweet Potato

Plantains are similar to bananas. This recipe can also be made using sweet potatoes. Have them for a snack, or serve them on a platter with vegetables and cheese for a vegetarian plate.

Ingredients: 3-4 servings

Plantains or sweet potatoes
Vegetable oil or olive oil
2 tablespoons or more
Cajun spice or garam masala
1 teaspoon
Salt (optional)
to taste

1. Heat oil in a frying pan to about 180℃. Peel the plantains, then cut into 1-cm thick slices. Shallow fry both sides until crisp and brown, then drain off excess oil.
2. Sprinkle on 1 teaspoon of Cajun spice and mix well. Refer to "Magma-ne-san Special"'s recipe: Recipe ID: 195407.
3. Platains have a starchy texture similar to sweet potatoes. These taste good seasoned with salt and chili powder, but they go very well with Cajun spice. Have them with beer or wine.
4. Plantains are "cooking bananas". They are sold in large supermarkets in Japan as well.
5. This recipe can be used with potatoes, sweet potatoes, or regular bananas, too.
6. I pan fried these with about 2 tablespoons oil. I recommend serving them up as a side to "kbitch"'s dish Recipe ID: 1006311.
7. I used this recipe to make sweet potatoes seasoned with garam masala.
8. Here they are served with grilled vegetables and Lemon Spice Cheese (Recipe ID: 1499840) for serving vegetarian guests.

Story Behind this Recipe

Since I love plantains and they were on sale, I fried them up and seasoned them with "Magma-ne-san Special"'s Cajun spice recipe.
