Chocolate Custard Cream

Chocolate Custard Cream

This recipe is easy to make and very quick. It's easy to measure the ingredients and less hustle as you use a whole egg.

It's full of chocolate.

Chocolate bar
60 g
★Cake flour
1 tablespoon
★Corn starch
1 tablespoon
★Granulated sugar (or caster sugar, etc)
1 rounded tablespoon
★Egg (whole egg)
200 ml
★Vanilla oil (or vanilla essence)
a few drops
★Grand Marnier or Cointreau (or your favorite liqueur)
to taste
5 g

1. Chop up the chocolate. I used a normal chocolate bar that you can buy anywhere. (It doesn't have to be baking chocolate. The ones you can buy at any supermarket are good enough.)
2. Put the ★ ingredients in a small sauce pan and mix well before you heat. (If you want to have a smooth silky texture, strain the mixture through a sieve here.)
3. Heat over low heat and keep stirring. Once it starts to thicken, it hardens quickly, so keep stirring!
4. Once it becomes shiny and hardens a little, add the chopped chocolate and mix well. Turn off the heat, add the butter and mix. It's done.
5. The chocolate blends in very quickly.
6. When you cool the custard cream, cover with cling film. Make sure it touches the surface of the custard cream as shown in the photo. This will prevent the surface from drying out.
7. If you chill the custard cream in the fridge, it will set firmly. Use it as a bread filling and so on. There are so many ways you can use it.
8. A small sauce pan and whisk are better when making this custard cream. (See the photo on the right.) A small whisk is very handy. I bought mine at a 100 yen shop.
9. Use 1 leveled tablespoon of cake flour and corn starch. Use 1 rounded tablespoon of granulated sugar.
10. FYI: We don't strain the mixture through a sieve in Step 2, but it's still delicious (It may have some tiny lumpy bits).

12. This is the banana version (Recipe ID: 784975).

Story Behind this Recipe

I love custard cream.
You can use it as a bread filling or to make cream puffs.
This makes a good dessert as it is.
My children gobble it down!
It's difficult for me to make complicated recipes, so I tried to make a simple & easy one.
