Chinese-Style Spicy Marinated Cucumbers

This is for when you want to snack on something spicy. Serve it on the side when you are having a hot pot. It just takes about 3 minutes for the marinade to permeate the cucumbers.


(A) Soy sauce
A little less than 2 tablespoons
A) Sesame oil
1 tablespoon
(A) Ra-yu
1 teaspoon
(A) Sugar
1/3 teaspoon
White sesame (if desired)
1 teaspoon
to taste
Red chili pepper
As desired


1. Bash up the cucumbers (with a rolling pin etc), and cut into chunks. Sprinkle lightly with salt.
2. Place the (A) ingredients inside a tupperware container or a plastic bag, and place the cucumbers into the mixture (Mix together). After about 15 minutes, add red chili pepper to taste.
3. Garnish with white sesame right before eating.

Story Behind this Recipe

I wanted to eat pickled cucumbers that were not Japanese-style, so I made them spicy by adding ra-yu spicy chili sesame oil.
