Homemade Okonomiyaki Sauce

Store-bough okonomiyaki sauce comes in quite large bottles so it's hard to use up, and regular Japanese Worcestershire sauce just doesn't work. So, why not try making your own!

Ingredients: 1 serving

Japanese Worcestershire sauce (medium-thick variety)
2 tablespoons
Soy sauce
1 teaspoon
Maple syrup or honey
1 teaspoon
Oyster sauce
1 teaspoon

Steps

1. Just mix all the ingredients together. This gives you enough sauce for one okonomiyaki pancake.

Story Behind this Recipe

While I hear people in the Kansai region make okonomiyaki on a regular basis, I only make it when I happen to have all the ingredients on hand. As such, I only use okonomiyaki sauce very occasionally. It seems a waste to buy the sauce because I won't use it all up, and Japanese Worcestershire sauce just doesn't work. In the country where I live, okonomiyaki sauce is a luxury item, so all-in-all it makes sense for me to make my own!
