Sata Andagi (Okinawan Donuts)

I learned this from a local Okinawa resident when I visited Okinawa. They are crispy, and the sweet brown sugar flavor is so delicious!

Ingredients: 10-15 pieces

Cake flour
160 g
Dark brown sugar (or white sugar)
80 g
Baking powder
2/3 teaspoon
Vegetable oil
1 teaspoon
Frying oil
as needed


1. Break the egg into a bowl and beat it. Add the sugar and mix well. Add the vegetable oil.
2. Add the cake flour and baking powder, and fold them in.
3. Roll the dough into ping pong ball sized balls.
4. Deep fry the dough balls slowly in oil heated to around 160℃.

Story Behind this Recipe

I wanted to try making sata andagi at least once. I was able to learn how to make them when I vacationed in Okinawa. I'm so glad they came out nicely.
