Easy Chrysanthemum Leaves with Sesame Seeds and Mayonnaise

The sweet sesame sauce with mayonnaise is a perfect match with bitter chrysanthemum greens.
It's so easy to make, so give it a try!

Chrysanthemum leaves (kikuna)
1 bunch (200 g)
1 tablespoon
Ground sesame seeds
1 teaspoon
1 teaspoon
Soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon

1. Combine all of the seasonings.
2. Thoroughly rinse the chrysanthemum leaves, and score the thick stalk with shallow cuts. Parboil in a generous amount of boiling water. (Be careful not to over-boil.)
3. Drain the chrysanthemum leaves, chill in cold water, then thoroughly drain the excess water when cooled. Cut into 2 to 3 cm lengths.
4. Squeeze the excess water from the chrysanthemum leaves once more before combining with the seasonings. Toss with the seasonings, then serve.

Story Behind this Recipe

The addition of mayonnaise to the sesame seed sauce turned this dish into a new flavor.
This is one dish I often make at home when winter comes around.
