Melting Hanpen with Shiso and Cheese

The caramelized soy sauce and butter is absolutely irresistible with the shiso leaves.

Ingredients: 2 servings

Shiso leaves
Easy melting cheese
As needed
1 scant tablespoon
Soy sauce (regular or salt-reduced)
1 drizzle (optional)


1. Cut the hanpen into four triangles. Slice the shiso leaves into half lengthwise.
2. Make cuts into the upper side of the hanpen triangles.
3. Sandwich the shiso leaf and melting cheese.
4. Heat butter in a pan and pan-fry both sides of the hanpen until brown. Drizzle in the soy sauce to finish, and serve.

My mother used to make these for me.
I tried sandwiching different things with hanpen, but this recipe is my favorite.
