Deep Fried Nagaimo

I fried nagaimo in flour after soaking in garlic and soy sauce! Looks like fried chicken on the outside, but the inside is fluffy and delicious.

Ingredients: serves 2

Nagaimo yam
3 cm diameter 10 cm length
(A) Garlic
1 clove, grated
(A) Ginger
1 clove, grated
(A) Soy sauce
3 tablespoons
(A) Sesame oil
1 tablespoon
Frying oil
as needed
as needed


1. Peel the nagaimo skin and chop into 1 cm pieces.
2. In a plastic bag or a bowl, add the (A) ingredients and the nagaimo from Step 1. Mix well and set aside for 10 minutes.
3. Coat in katakuriko and fry in oil until golden brown, and they're done.

Story Behind this Recipe

I made grated yams and had some left over, so I came up with this variation! It's more refreshing than chicken and you can eat a lot. It's also delicious when cold!
