Barrel Animals Character Bento

Barrel Animals Character Bento

I had a go at turning barrel-shaped rice balls (often included in bento) into cute animals.

Ingredients: 4 barrel animals

Plain cooked rice
2 rice bowls' worth (300 g)
Salt
to taste
Nori
as needed
Ham
as needed
Decorations (all optional)
Fish sausage, edamame, carrot, usuyaki tamago, sliced cheese, etc.
as needed

Steps

1. Mix the salt into the rice, distributing evenly, then mold into barrel shapes using your hands.
2. Barrel Panda: Cut out ears, eyes, a nose, and mouth from a sheet of nori, then stick them on to make the panda's face. Wrap the 'body' in nori. Decorations: fish sausage and edamame.
3. Barrel Seal: Cut out ears, eyes, a nose, and mouth from a sheet of nori, then stick them on to make the seal's face. Decorations: carrot and ketchup.
4. Barrel Dog Cut out ears, eyes, a nose, and mouth from a sheet of nori, then stick them on to make the dog's face. Wrap the 'body' in usuyaki tamago (thin sheet of omelette). Decorations: fish sausage.
5. Barrel Pig Make the ears and nose from ham or fish sausage, then cut out the eyes and nostrils from nori. Attach to form the pig's face. Wrap the 'body' in ham. Decorations: Cheese.

Story Behind this Recipe

Barrel Cats Character Bento (Recipe ID: 696695) After I made the barrel cat bento, I though that it might be possible to make other 'barrel animals' and so gave it a go.
