Bacon and Winter Melon in Cream Sauce

Bacon and Winter Melon in Cream Sauce

The cream sauce has a nice rich taste from the bacon and grated cheese that matches the refreshing texture of winter melon really well.

Ingredients: 2 servings

Winter melon (medium)
4 slices
Shimeji mushrooms
1 bag
Garlic (grated)
1 clove
150 ml
Consommé soup stock granules (or cubes)
1 teaspoon (or 1 cube)
200 ml
Salt and pepper
to taste
Grated cheese
2 to 3 tablespoons
Katakuriko slurry
Katakuriko: 1 tablespoon, Water: 2 scant tablespoon

1. Chop the winter melon into bite-sized pieces and the bacon into 2 cm size pieces.
2. Pan-fry the garlic and bacon without using oil. Add shimeji mushrooms, then add the winter melon.
3. Add water and consommé into a pan. Cover the pan and simmer until the melon softens.
4. Add milk to the pan, then season with salt, pepper, and grated cheese. Thicken with katakuriko dissolved in water to finish.

Story Behind this Recipe

I was thinking of a different way to eat winter melon. This is what I came up with!
