Chikuwa Roll Isobe Fries with Quail Eggs

Chikuwa Roll Isobe Fries with Quail Eggs

I think these are even more delicious than normal Isobe fries (seaweed wrapped mochi).

Ingredients: 2 servings

Chikuwa
5
Quail eggs
10
Flour
4 tablespoons
Aonori (optional)
1 tablespoon
Cold water
150 ml
Toothpicks
10
Mentsuyu, grated daikon radish, shiso leaves
for dipping

Steps

1. Boil the quail eggs to your desired hardness, peel the shells, and set aside. Cut the chikuwa in half lengthwise to make 10 sticks.
2. Wrap the chikuwa around the eggs, and secure with toothpicks.
3. Mix the flour and cold water, and add aonori. Dip Step 2 in the batter, deep-fry in oil at 180℃, then you're done.

Story Behind this Recipe

When I went to an izakaya (Japanese gastropub), I ate Isobe age with a quail egg inside. It was very tasty, so I tried copying it.
