Easy Snacks Mitarashi Potato Mochi

You can make these easily with common cupboard ingredients. Mochi snacks made with potatoes! The sauce is both sweet and spicy so they are sure to satisfy.

Ingredients: Aprrox 4 servings

Potatoes
4 - 5
Katakuriko
4 tablespoons
★Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
★Sugar
2 tablespoons
★Mirin
1 tablespoon
Margarine
as needed

Steps

1. Boil, drain and mash the potatoes. Mix in the katakuriko.
2. Roll into slightly flat ovals ( I made 16 bite-sized pieces).
3. Grease a frying pan with margarine and cook the potato bites. When the katakuriko has browned, flip over, cover with a lid and steam. Mix all of the ingredients marked with ★ together to make the sauce, pour over the bites and toss to finish.

Story Behind this Recipe

My kids were hounding me for snacks but all we had left were potatoes!! So I made potato mochi snacks. I tried making them similar to mitarashi dango (traditional Japanese sweets).
