Stir-Fried Konnyaku with Bonito Flakes and Kimchi

Made in a few minutes and surprisingly delicious. My dieting husband loves this. It becomes even better after some time, so make twice the amount you need and serve the leftovers the next day. I highly recommend it as a drinking appetizer for overweight dads.

Ingredients: 2 to 4 servings

1 piece (250 g)
Kimchi (finely chopped)
50 g
Bonito flakes
1 handful (6 g)
Soy sauce
1 teaspoon
Vegetable oil
1 teaspoon
Sesame oil
a small amount


1. These are the ingredients. Clockwise from the front: Kimchi, bonito flakes, konnyaku (black), oil, soy sauce, sesame oil.
2. Make lots of holes in the konnyaku with a fork or toothpick. Cut out bite-sized pieces from it with a spoon.
3. Boil the konnyaku for about 2 minutes, and drain.
4. Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan and stir-fry the konnyaku.
5. Add the chopped kimchi and stir-fry.
6. Drizzle in the soy sauce, mix and turn off the heat.
7. Add the bonito flakes and mix.
8. Drizzle with a little sesame oil to taste, to make it even more fragrant.

Story Behind this Recipe

My husband is on a calorie-restricted eating plan under doctor's orders. I wanted to give him something that was low in calories but still rich tasting, so I made this. The kimchi is chopped finely and a lot of bonito flakes are added so that the flavors penetrate the konnyaku better. I edited the recipe and changed some photos.
