Easy Homemade Ponzu Sauce

An easy and delicious ponzu sauce made by mixing homemade dashi soy sauce (Recipe ID: 454979) with seasoning ingredients.

Ingredients: Makes about 200 ml

All-Purpose Japanese Sauce (Recipe ID: 459979). You can use store-bought soy sauce and mentsuyu as well.
100 ml
50 ml
Citrus juice (yuzu, kabosu, lemon etc)
about 50 ml
✿ Soy sauce and vinegar (if you like a strongly flavored sauce)
1/2 tablespoon each


1. Juice the citrus. I used kabosu this time. You can use bottled lemon juice instead.
2. Add all the other ingredients to the citrus juice, and that's it!
3. The sauce is a little too light to use with hot pots so I added the soy sauce and vinegar to compensate. Please adjust the ingredients to your taste. If you add vinegar, you can keep the sauce for a long time in the refrigerator, so I recommend it.

Story Behind this Recipe

One of the Cookpad users who tried my recipe for "All-Purpose Japanese Sauce (Dashi Soy Sauce) told me that she tried adding lemon juice to it to make ponzu sauce. So I came up with a ratio of ingredients that suited my family's tastes and uploaded this recipe. The ratio of dashi soy sauce, citrus juice and mirin is 2:1:1. You can adjust the sourness of the sauce with the mirin.
