Brown Rice with Hijiki Seaweed

Brown Rice with Hijiki Seaweed

Macrobiotic style brown rice mixed with hijiki seaweed and lots of white sesame seeds. It has a lot of minerals which are good for your health and beauty. It is a simple mixed rice with a savory smell drifts through the room.

Ingredients: 2 rice cooker cups' worth (360 ml)

Brown rice
2 rice cooker cups (360 ml)
500 ml
Hijiki seaweed (dried)
12 g
Soy sauce
1 teaspoon
1/3 teaspoon
Toasted white sesame seeds
as you like

1. Lightly rinse the brown rice to clean. Add to the water and soak it for over 1 hour (5 hours if possible).
2. Rinse the hijiki seaweed. If it is the long kind, chop it up into short strips (You do not need to rehydrate it in water).
3. Add the hijiki from Step 2, salt, and soy sauce into the rice and cook it in a rice cooker like you would normally cook steamed rice.
4. When the cooking is done, sprinkle and mix your preferred amount of toasted sesame seeds into the rice.
5. The earthy aroma is wonderful. Don't forget to chew a lot when you eat.

Story Behind this Recipe

Brown rice and hijiki seaweed are key ingredients in macrobiotics. I think (and it may be just my own perspective) brown rice tastes the best when it is cooked with just a few ingredients.
(I prefer using white rice when I want to add a lot of ingredients. lol.)
