Chilled Tofu with Crispy Sakura Shrimp and Sizzling Sesame Oil

Chilled Tofu with Crispy Sakura Shrimp and Sizzling Sesame Oil

This well known izakaya or Japanese gastropub dish can be made in a jiffy. The crispy sakura shrimp are very fragrant.

Ingredients: 1 serving

Tofu
1/2 block
Sakura shrimp - tiny dried shrimp
to taste
Sesame oil
1 tablespoon
Soy sauce
1 teaspoon

Steps

1. This is a critical step! Dry-roast the sakura shrimp in a cast iron frying pan.
2. Pour the dry roasted sakura shrimp on top of the drained tofu.
3. Heat the sesame oil in the same frying pan.
4. Pour the sizzling hot sesame oil on top of the tofu.
5. Add some soy sauce to taste.
6. Finished. It took 10 minutes.

Story Behind this Recipe

When I had this dish at an izakaya the sakura shrimp were soft and limp, so for my version I made them very crispy.
