Cook the onion and carrot in butter, then add the ground meat and cook until the meat changes color. Sprinkle in the flour and cook well.
Add the water and tomato ketchup, and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix every now and then to keep it from burning.
I originally listed 7g of flour, but that's difficult to understand so I changed it to 1 tablespoon. Although honestly, 1 tablespoon is 8g, but it's no problem at all.
Story Behind this Recipe
I loved the meat sauce served for my school lunch. The meat sauce we learned how to make in middle school cooking class was actually this flavor! After getting married, I made this for my husband and he loved it, so I continue to make this even now. I make this in 10 times the listed amount and store it in the freezer.
When reheating large batches from the freezer; I think it's a good idea to add a bit of ketchup when simmering it. I froze about 5 ladles' worth, then added about two good squeezes of ketchup.
