Kissaten Style Ham and Cucumber Toasted Sandwich

Kissaten Style Ham and Cucumber Toasted Sandwich

An easy to make kissaten (Japanese-style tearoom) sandwich. Since there's no need to cook, you can make these in a flash. The richness of the margarine and mayonnaise is delicious!

Ingredients: 1 serving

Sliced bread
2 slices
3 slices
4 diagonally cut slices
as needed
to taste
a small amount

1. Using a long diagonal angle, cut 4 slices of cucumber.
2. Toast 2 slices of bread in a toaster or toaster oven. With the shortest edge facing you, spread each piece first with margarine, then with mayonnaise.
3. On one slice, place three slices of ham, shifting them top to bottom, from one edge to the other, then arrange the cucumber slices on top.
4. Place the other slice of bread on top.
5. Slice off the crust from the long edges.
6. Cut the sandwich at a slight angle, transfer to a serving dish, then serve.

Story Behind this Recipe

This is the sandwich my mother used to make when she worked at a kissaten. It's a comforting taste that I've loved since I was a child.
