Honey Milk Caramels (with different flavor variations)

Honey Milk Caramels (with different flavor variations)

These are delicious homemade caramel candies that aren't too unhealthy for you. Plus, you can make them in no time. They are soothing to your throat, and even people who don't like milk can take in lots of calcium with these. Just knead with your hands and form into any shape you like. It's just like playing with clay.

Ingredients: 6 to 8

Honey
1 generous tablespoon (about 25 g)
Skim milk powder
2 tablespoons
★ Cocoa, matcha, Milo (malt) powder, kinako etc.
1 teaspoon per caramel (of any flavor, to taste)
☆Shredded coconut
1 tablespoon per caramel (if using this variation)

Steps

1. Put the honey in a heatproof container and microwave for about 1 minute at 500 W. Add the skim milk powder. Roll into shapes with your hands, dust with more skim milk powder (not listed in the ingredients) and they're done. (This is the basic milk caramel version.)
2. Add some unsweetened cocoa powder to the mixture from Step 1 for chocolate caramels. I also coated them with more cocoa powder on the outside (not listed). This photos shows a mix of milk and chocolate caramels. They're also delicious with matcha tea powder or Milo malt powder (or instant coffee) instead of cocoa.
3. If using shredded coconut, add 1 tablespoon to each caramel. Dust each one with a little more coconut (not listed in the ingredients).
4. People have been giving me great feedback with their own cute variations. These hina doll bunnies by user "Airline" are so cute and wonderful - just look at them!
5. Another Cookpad user called "Kazebiyori" made these chick and egg caramels - these are so pretty to look at too. Not only are these caramels delicious, I had no idea they could be formed into such cute shapes!

Story Behind this Recipe

I've loved caramels since I was little, but I wanted to make a healthy version.
