Stick Onigiri! Cheese & Cucumber

This is an onigiri that's been formed into an easy-to-eat stick.
Like an open sandwich, I put the fillings on top!

Ingredients: 2 sticks

Plain steamed rice
1 serving (240 g cooked)
Easily melting processed cheese slice
1 slice
a pinch
Bonito flakes
2 g
Coarsely ground black pepper
to taste


1. Slice the cucumber into thin rounds, salt them, and leave to sit for 5 minutes.
2. Cut the sliced cheese into 4 equal sized long, thin strips.
3. Spread 1/2 bowlful of rice over some cling film. The width should be the width of 2 strips of cheese from Step 2 laid end to end.
4. Sprinkle 1/2 the bonito flakes over the rice.
5. Fold the rice over in half inside the cling film.
6. Fold the ends of the cling film to the length of the cheese and wrap the cling film tightly so that the rice is pushing against the sides.
7. Gently press the rice with your fist
8. and roll it to form a stick shape.
9. Unwrap it and place 2 strips of cheese on top.
10. Then arrange the cucumber slices from Step 1 (with the moisture pressed out)
11. into a line on top of Step 9.
12. Sprinkle some pepper over the top.
13. Then, wrap it with cling film once more.
14. Make another stick following the same method and you're done!
