When I did a homestay in New Zealand, my host mother made this dish for us. Since I was just watching from the side while she was making it, I do not know the exact measurements of the ingredients, but I tried to recall it and made it in my own way.
These are the cannelloni. Rolled up lasagna noodles can be used instead.
Make the filling for cannelloni. Boil the spinach. Sauté the ground beef and season it with salt and pepper. Add the spinach into the meat.
Filling continued. Once the meat mixture is cooled down, add the cottage cheese and mix it well.
Fill the cannelloni with the ★ filling. Be careful not to crush it.
Grease a heat-proof container with butter, then arrange the cannelloni.
Make the white sauce. In a pan, dissolve stew roux with the water and turn on the heat. Once it starts to thicken, add the milk.
Pour the meat sauce over the arranged cannelloni. I also added the leftover cottage cheese from filling, and sprinkled some ground nutmeg.
Pour the white sauce over it and top it with easy melting cheese.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180℃ for about 25-30 minutes.
It's done! Mine collapsed a little, but you can cover it up with some sauce.
Story Behind this Recipe
My host mother made this cannelloni when I did a homestay at her house. It was delicious. She made a lot of cannelloni and serve it on a very big plate and we all ate while enjoying the conversation.
The meat sauce may be a little more than you need. You can reduce the amount to your preference. Some recipes call for cooking the cannelloni first, but I used them without cooking them since they are packed with filling.
