Stir-Fried Water Spinach (Stir-Fried Ong Choy)

Stir-Fried Water Spinach (Stir-Fried Ong Choy)

The garlic and sesame oil gives this a great flavor.

Ingredients: 1~2 servings

Ong choy (Chinese water spinach)
1 bunch
Sesame oil
about 1 tablespoon
1 clove
to taste
Red chili peppers (with the seeds)

1. First, go out and buy some water spinach. There wasn't any at the local supermarket, so I ordered some from a farm in Shizuoka through Rakuten.
2. Cut the water spinach. Cut the stems into about 3 cm lengths and the leaves into about 5 cm pieces (easy-to-eat sizes).
3. Heat the frying pan over high heat, add the sesame oil and finely chopped garlic, and the thinly sliced red chili peppers. Lightly stir-fry.
4. When the garlic has browned, add the stems. When they have cooked, add the leaves and stir-fry.
5. Once it comes out like this, it's ready. Season with some salt.

Story Behind this Recipe

This is a dish I ate at a Taiwanese restaurant in Toyosu, so I decided to give making it a shot.
