Cute Girl's Day Temari Sushi

Cute Girl's Day Temari Sushi

This is simple temari sushi that even kids can enjoy making! I've separated the steps into what adults and kids can do.

Ingredients: 2 servings

Sushi Rice
Plain cooked rice
2 rice cooker cups worth (360 ml uncooked)
1 tablespoon
1 tablespoon
1 teaspoon
Sushi Topping
Sashimi cuts
1 pack
1 slice
1 slice
Radish sprouts
1 piece
Shiso leaf
1 slice

1. [Kids] Mix together all of the ingredients to make the seasoning for the sushi rice. Empty some warmed cooked rice into tupperware or similar and mix in the seasoning.
2. [Kids] Mix the seasoning into the rice with a cutting motion. [Adults] If the rice doesn't cool quickly on it's own, fan it with a fan whilst the kids mix in the seasoning.
3. [Adults] Slice the sashimi into thin, bite sized slices. If they are too big then they won't fit onto the rice well and won't look very nice.
4. Preparing the toppings. [Adults] Cut the lemon and other topping ingredients into small pieces. [Kids] Cut out some star shapes from a slice of ham.
5. [Kids] Place a sheet of cling film over a small 3 cm bowl.
6. [Kids] Place a piece of sashimi on top of the cling film, then a ball of rice.
7. [Kids] Lift everything out of the bowl and wrap in the cling film. Tightly shape everything into a ball to complete.
8. [Kids] Remove the wrap and add the finishing touches with a few toppings. If you want to use shiso leaves, add the ingredients in the order of sashimi-shiso leaf-rice.

Story Behind this Recipe

I made these with my son who loves pretending that he owns a shop. We made real, simple sushi which made him really happy! You can check out the movie we made here:
