This is a quick and easy version of the real thing, but of course, if you make this with the actual ingredients it will taste authentic! It's a great sauce for Khao Man Kai, raw spring rolls, or vegetables sticks.
Red miso (if possible, tauchu [Thai soybean paste])
Fresh red chili peppers (minced or powdered chili pepper)
Sweet chili sauce (Recipe ID: 2341350)
Combine the miso , garlic, ginger, red chili pepper, and salt in the hot water.
Add the sweet chili sauce and sesame oil. Mix together well and it's done.
If you don't have store-bought sweet chili sauce, you can make your own (Recipe ID: 2341350).
Use this sauce for Hainanese Chicken Rice (Khao Man Kai) (Recipe ID: 2382114).
It also goes well with raw spring rolls (Recipe ID: 2340912).
Story Behind this Recipe
I love Khao Man Kai and I always eat it if I see it somewhere, but the flavor of the sauce changes depending on the restaurant and each one is delicious. So, I took various flavors from each one and made my own Thai style Tauchu sauce. It also goes great with pork shabu shabu or Bang Bang Chicken.
Tauchu is an indispensable Thai ingredient made from fermented soybeans. This time I just used ingredients that were easy to get, so I substituted it for miso, but soybeans have a deeper and rich flavor so try using tauchu paste. The tauchu paste contains whole fermented soybeans, so mash them up before using.
