Narazuke Fried Rice Bento

Narazuke Fried Rice Bento

A bento with "Narazuke" - a pickle that is a Nara specialty. The sweetness and texture of the Narazuke is a nice accent.

Ingredients: 1 serving

Plain cooked rice
130 g
● Narazuke
40 g
● Chirimen jako (semi-dried salted tiny sardines)
5 g
● Japanese leek
20 g
Soy sauce
1/2 tablespoon
Vegetable oil
1 tablespoon

1. Dice the Narazuke into 5 mm. Thinly slice the white part of the leek. Beat an egg in a bowl.
2. Heat oil in a pan and pour the beaten egg. When it begins to set, add the rice and stir fry while breaking the clumps apart.
3. When the rice clumps have separated, add the ● ingredients and stir fry together.
4. Drizzle soy sauce onto the exposed hot surface of the pan. Mix in and it's done.

Story Behind this Recipe

I wanted to make a main dish using my favorite Narazuke, and so I created this recipe. Since the fried rice contains both Narazuka and chirimen jako which are both salty, you only need a little bit of soy sauce and it'll be delicious. I packed the rest of the bento with items with different tastes and textures.
