Easy-to-Make Loco Moco Bowl with Tofu Hamburgers

This is healthy dish so you can eat a lot of it! Eat this rich dish by mixing delicious sauce, hamburger steak, creamy egg and crunchy cabbage with freshly steamed rice!. This is a super satisfying dish.

Ingredients: 3 servings

Hamburgers
Minced meat (beef, pork, mixed, as you like)
200 g
Tofu
1/2 block
Panko
50 g
Egg

Salt・pepper・nutmeg

Sake

Tomato ketchup
4 tablespoons
Tonkatsu sauce (Japanese style Worcestershire sauce or steak sauce)
4 tablespoons

Steps

1. Remove the moisture from the tofu.
2. Combine the drained tofu, minced meat, panko, egg and all seasonings into a bowl and mix well.
3. Make the sauce. Combine sake・ketchup・tonkatsu sauce and mix well. The sauce is finished.
4. Make 'onsen tamago' (soft poached egg). Place plenty of water into a pot and heat to boil.
5. Once the water comes to boil, turn off the heat. Wait [for 1 minute] and place the eggs inside. Don't turn the heat on! Don't roll the eggs!
6. Drain the eggs after 13 minutes and then submerge in cold water.
7. Shape the hamburger steaks into any size you'd like and make an indent in the middle of the hamburger. Heat some oil in a frying pan and cook the hamburgers slowly on medium heat.
8. Flip them over once the edges start to whiten.
9. Pour the sauce over the hamburgers when both sides are browned. Keep flipping the hamburgers so the sauce coats the meat and stop the heat.
10. Place julienned cabbage and the hamburgers onto a bowl of rice. Top with a chilled egg and drizzle the sauce left over in the frying pan to finish.

Story Behind this Recipe

Instead of using 100% meat, you can make the dish a bit healthier by mixing in tofu.
I omitted adding onions because it was troublesome! The cabbage helps give it some texture.
