Star Anise Seasoned Chicken

Star Anise Seasoned Chicken

A simple chicken thigh meat dish, with plenty of star anise that reminds me of memories from my visit to Taiwan.

Ingredients: 2 servings

Chicken thigh meat
1 block
Star anise
2 tablespoons
3 cloves
2 cm wide piece
Soy sauce, sake, mirin
1 ladle of each
Sesame oil (for finishing)
1 teaspoon

1. Cut the chicken thigh block into bite-sized pieces and add to a pot.
2. Add 2 tablespoons of star anise, 3 cloves of garlic, and 2 cm wide pieces of sliced garlic to the pot.
3. Add 1 ladle full each of soy sauce, mirin, and sake to the pot. Add enough water to cover the chicken and heat on high. Simmer until the moisture has cooked off.
4. Once the moisture has cooked off, stop the heat and mix in a teaspoon of sesame oil. Stir and it's complete.

Story Behind this Recipe

I couldn't forget this flavor I had in Taiwan. I recreated this using a lot of star anise I purchased in Chinatown.
