Almost Mapo Tofu (in 5 minutes with microwave)

Don't you get those intense cravings for mapo tofu sometimes? This recipe is great for those days when you really want mapo tofu, but don't have any meat. You'll be surprised by how delicious this is.

Ingredients: 1 serving

Silken tofu (firm tofu is OK too)
about 80 g
50 ml
1~2 tablespoons
★Grated garlic
a small amount
★Prepared ginger paste in tube
a small amount
3~4 drops
Chopped scallion
to your liking
Katakuriko dissolved in water
2 teaspoons
2 teaspoons


1. Cube your tofu into your desired size, and microwave at around 600 W for 40 seconds or so without any cling wrap or covering.
2. Combine the ingredients marked with ★ and pour into the bowl with your cubed tofu. Lightly place a sheet of cling wrap over the bowl, and heat in a microwave for 1.5 minutes.
3. Remove from the microwave, and start pouring the water-dissolved katakuriko into the bowl of tofu and sauce. Stir gently in circular motions, until the sauce has thickened into the consistency of your preference.

I watching tv when an ad for mapo tofu came on... Suddenly, I was attacked by this intense craving for mapo tofu, but I only had tofu in my fridge. That's when I came up with this recipe.
