California Roll with Wine Vinegar

California Roll with Wine Vinegar

This western style sushi roll uses homemade vinegar made with wine vinegar. It's great for parties! Please enjoy making this by putting in different ingredients such as fried shrimp, etc.

Ingredients: 4 servings

Plain cooked rice
2 rice cooker cups' worth (360 ml)
Salmon (for sashimi)
50 g
Thick Omelette
1 egg
Imitation crab sticks
White roasted sesame seeds
as needed
to taste
Toasted nori
3 whole sheets
[Homemade Vinegar]
Pure white wine vinegar
4 tablespoons
3 tablespoons
1 1/2 teaspoons

1. Add a little water to some warm rice and then while it's still hot, mix the Homemade Vinegar ingredients in together stirring well by hand.
2. Once the rice has absorbed the vinegar mixture, use a handheld fan to cool the rice and the sushi rice is ready!
3. Cut the salmon, cucumber, thick omelette, avocado, and crab into easy-to-roll size pieces that are the size of the nori seaweed.
4. Place the seaweed on top of a bamboo sushi rolling mat, and then thinly spread out the rice you made in Step 3. Sprinkle roasted sesame seeds.
5. Put some plastic wrap on top of what you made in Step 5 and flip it over. Now on top of the seaweed, place the ingredients cut in Step 4 on top.
6. Next coat the top of what you made in Step 6 with mayonnaise. Roll it up from the end firmly pushing down as you do. Use a wet kitchen knife to cut it and it's done!

Story Behind this Recipe

This recipe uses homemade vinegar to make western style sushi. Instead of using grain or rice vinegar, I used wine vinegar.
