Simmered Beef: Great for Hand Rolled Sushi or Rice Bowls

This salty-sweet soy sauce flavored simmered beef is great when eaten with rice as an impromptu rice bowl, or wrapped in hand rolled sushi! It will keep for a while so it's also great in bento lunchboxes or as veggie side dishes.

Ingredients: Easy-to-make portions

Beef (thinly sliced)
500 g
A) Sake
1 cup
A) Soy Sauce
60 ml
A) Mirin
30 ml
A) Sugar
3 tablespoons
Ginger (finely chopped)
3 pieces
Garlic (finely chopped)
1 clove

Steps

1. Place the A ingredients into a pot and bring to a boil.
2. Add the bite-sized beef, ginger, and garlic. Untangle the beef with chopsticks so that it doesn't clump together.
3. Cover it with a drop-lid and let it simmer on medium heat while occasionally stirring. When the liquid has lessened, turn off the heat and leave it to sit to let the flavors settle in.

Story Behind this Recipe

I loved this simmered beef that my mom used to make all the time.
