Julienne Burdock Beef Roll

The sauce is very good to eat with rice. It is also good for Japanese lunch box.

Ingredients: 2 portions

Thinly sliced beef (or beef short plate or flank)
Burdock root
About 15 cm of a thick one
Japanese leek (the white part)
about 7 cm
Enoki mushrooms
As needed
Cut Japanese rice cake (square)
As needed
★ The sauce that matches very well with rice ★
Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
1 1/2 tablespoons
2 teaspoons
1 1/2 tablespoons


1. Julienne the burdock and keep it in a water with vinegar to remove the harshness.
2. Julienne the carrot and the Japanese leek and cut the rice cake into rectangles.
3. Roll the vegetables with beef. Burdock and other vegetables and rice cake etc and roll.
4. Pour olive oil in a frying pan and put the katakuriko-coated meat on the pan. Fry it until browned.
5. Pour olive oil in a frying pan and put the meat on the pan. Fry it till they have a brown color.
6. When the beef has a brown color, add the sauce in the frying pan. The sauce is soy sauce sugar, sake and water mixed together.
7. Cover the frying pan with a lid and fry it in low to middle heat for a while. Be careful not to burn it!
8. When the sauce has soaked in well in the beef, it's ready.

Story Behind this Recipe

To eat many kind of vegetables and burdock, I rolled it in beef. The beef and the sweet sauce is very good to eat with rice! My husband loves this recipe.
