Sweet and Spicy Braised Pork Belly with Daikon Radish

Nice with rice! Have a taste of sweet and spicy braised pork with daikon for your dinner tonight!

Ingredients: 2 to 3 servings

Thick sliced pork belly
200 g
Daikon radish
The sauce ingredients:
Soy sauce
1 tablespoon
slightly less than 1 tablespoon
Sake (or cooking sake)
1 tablespoon
2 to 3 tablespoons
Sesame oil
1 teaspoon
as needed
Red chili

1. Cut the pork belly into bite size pieces and fry in a pan.
2. Cut the daikon into about the same thickness (about 1.5 cm) quarter rounds as the pork and fry together with pork.
3. Fry until the daikon is browned (nice and crispy).
4. Grate the ginger and combine with other sauce ingredients (Do not use too much red chili. It might be too spicy.)
5. Pour over the combined the Step 4 sauce ingredients into the pan.
6. Cook for a while until the daikon is tender (add water if necessary).
7. When the daikon is tender, it is done. Very nice with rice! Boil eggs together with it and it will be good!

Story Behind this Recipe

Braised pork belly and daikon radish has been always one of the side dishes I make, but I added some changes to the recipe a friend's mum showed me. I made it more substantial using my usual ingredients.
