Wasabi Inari for Cherry-Blossom Viewing (from March Comes in Like a Lion)

Wasabi Inari for Cherry-Blossom Viewing (from March Comes in Like a Lion)

In an episode of the manga series "March Comes in Like a Lion", the character Akari made this wasabi inarizushi. It is perfect for a cherry-blossom viewing picnic! Even people who do not like the normal sweet inarizushi think it tastes good.

Ingredients: Makes 12 inari sushi

Hot cooked rice
about 2 rice cooker cups (360 ml uncooked)
Store-bought inariage
12
Grated wasabi
3-3 and 1/2 teaspoons
Roasted sesame seeds
Lots
□ Eggs
2
□ Shiro-dashi
1 teaspoon
○ Soy sauce
about 3 teaspoons
○ Mirin
about 3 teaspoons
○ Ground chicken
100 g
★ Sugar
as you like
★ Vinegar
as you like

Steps

1. Mix the rice and the ★ ingredients to make sushi rice. I make light tasting sushi rice since my family doesn't like vinegar rice very much.
2. Sauté all the ○ ingredients to make the chicken soboro (crumbled chicken). I recommend separating the ground chicken into a fine crumble.
3. Make scrambled eggs with the □ ingredients. You can season it with soy sauce or salt instead of shiro dashi if you prefer. Make fine just like the chicken soboro.
4. Mix the sushi rice with wasabi, sesame seeds, scrambled eggs, and the chicken soboro. I used roughly grated wasabi this time. Using wasabizuke (wasabi pickled vegetables) is a good idea too.
5. Fill the inari pouch with the rice mixture and they're ready.

Story Behind this Recipe

I really wanted to try the wasabi inarizushi that Akari, one of the main characters in "March Comes in Like a Lion", made in an episode.
