My Grandmother's Mashed Sweet Potato with Sweet Chestnuts

My Grandmother's Mashed Sweet Potato with Sweet Chestnuts

Using candied chestnut syrup and not many ingredients, I was able to make a perfectly sweet dish of mashed sweet potato and sweet chestnuts.

Sweet potatoes
500 g
Candied chestnuts (Weight of chestnuts)
250 g
Candied chestnut syrup
About 3/4 cup (140 ml)
a small amount

1. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into 1.5 cm semi-circular shapes. Then put them in water.
2. Steam the sweet potatoes until soft. When you can easily pierce them with a skewer, they're done.
3. Mash the steamed potatoes with a masher, then strain until smooth.
4. Put the strained sweet potato in a pan. Turn on the heat, add the salt and the candied chestnut syrup, and stir over low heat for about 5 minutes.
5. Turn off the heat, add in the candied chestnuts, and mix well. Once it has chilled, it's ready.

Story Behind this Recipe

Ever since I was little, I loved my grandmother's Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Sweet Chestnuts. Somehow, I remembered how to make this by eyeballing the ingredients. I tried to remember the old flavor while making this.
