The texture of the walnuts and the rich taste of the cheese will make these ohagi (sweet rice cake) exceptionally delicious. These rolled ohagi go well with coffee rather than green tea.
I saw a recipe for a very cute rolled ohagi recipe in a local newsletter. Since my daughter does not like red bean paste, I filled it with cheese and walnuts instead and to create a new version.
Kinako could be substituted with roasted ground sesame seeds and sugar.
