Onigiri Sandwiches

Onigiri Sandwiches

Use a bento box to shape these into perfect rectangles!!! You can make various types of sandwiches. Enjoy many different flavors and store in the freezer.

Plain cooked rice
1 rice bowl's worth (about 150-200 g)
Nori seaweed
4 sheets
Soy sauce
a small amount
Dried bonito flakes
1 packet
Furikake (shiso)
1 packet
Leftovers from dinner, tuna + mayo, leafy greens, etc.
to taste

1. Cover a bento box or Tupperware container in plastic wrap and put the nori seaweed on top.
2. Put about half the rice on top of the seaweed. Top with your choice of filling, covering all of the rice, and even it out. Put the remaining half of rice on top to make a sandwich.
3. Cover the rice with another sheet of seaweed, wrap it up with plastic wrap, and lightly push down on it (so it doesn't lose its shape).
4. Remove it from the container and adjust the shape. Cut into just the right size you need and it's complete. You can store it in the freezer just like that.

Story Behind this Recipe

Making onigiri rice balls every single morning takes so much time, so I always just sprinkle furikake seasoning. Then I thought I'd stock some in the freezer, since I store frozen rice anyway.
