Rusk-style Bread Crusts

Rusk-style Bread Crusts

This is a recipe I make when my husband is at home and bread is on sale. This is how you can stretch a 5-slice loaf amongst 3 people! These are great as a snack, too!

Ingredients: 3 servings

Bread crusts (from a 5-slice loaf of sandwich bread)
1 loaf
Salted butter
30 g or more
Granulated sugar
1 tablespoon or more

1. Slice off the bread crusts. You should get 20 pieces. Place a layer of aluminium foil in the toaster oven, then arrange the crusts on top.
2. Top with pats of butter, then sprinkle with granulated sugar.
3. Toast in the toaster oven until crisp. Bake for longer than regular toast.
4. You can make these even fancier by sprinkling on cocoa powder or cinnamon. The photo shows my favorite brand of butter.

Story Behind this Recipe

I love 5 slice (2.4-cm thick) sandwich bread, but it's hard to divide among three people! When I baked these up, they were a big hit! Since we are big eaters, this recipe was created out of desperation!

I'm envious of families where everyone eats only 1 slice of bread each. Just today, my son ate 3 slices plus these bread crusts.
