After letting the bread dough rest, roll into an oblong shape. Cut in half. Cut a slit in each half, leaving it connected at the top.
Twist the left and right pieces of dough around each other for both halves. Tightly connect the top and bottom edges of both pieces. Place the wiener into the hole in the centre and snugly secure the dough around it.
Place on a baking tray and use the oven's bread proofing function to let the dough rise a second time. As soon as it has finished rising, preheat the oven.
Optionally, spread on egg to glaze. Top with your choice of toppings. Bake according to the bread dough you are using.
Story Behind this Recipe
I was sick of making sausage bread in the same old boring shape, and wanted to make something different.
Since the sausages might release some grease, use aluminum cups. Make sure to tightly connect the edges of the dough so it doesn't fall apart. If you twist the dough evenly, it will look very nice.
