Sweet & Savory Pork Rice Bowl

The pretty thinly cut pork is easy to eat and the dish is flavorful. Use as much garlic and ginger as you want.

Ingredients: 2 hearty helpings

Thinly sliced pork
200 g
Soy sauce, sake, mirin
4 tablespoons of each
Plain flour
Enough to lightly coat the meat
★Ginger, garlic (from a tube)
1-2 cm each


1. Combine the sauce ingredients. Add your preferred amount of the ★ garlic and ginger. I use about 1 cm of each.
2. Spread out the meat slices and dredge in flour. Heat oil in a frying pan and pan-fry until lightly browned.
3. If you don't wipe the excess oil with a paper towel, the finished product will be quite greasy.
4. Add the combined sauce ingredients into the pan and mix it with the meat on medium heat. It's finished once the sauce has thickened.
5. Don't forget to pour the leftover sauce over the meat. It'll still be flavorful even if you cut down on the amount of sauce.

Story Behind this Recipe

Even if you're using cheap cuts of meat, the sauce will make this an exceptional dish. If you omit the ginger and pork, you'll have a regular pork rice bowl. Adding ginger and garlic makes a gingered pork rice bowl.
