Our Family's Okonomiyaki Made with Flour

When we make okonomiyaki at home, we don't use okonomiyaki flour, we enjoy delicious homemade okonomiyaki made with flour.

Ingredients: 4-5 servings

★Cake flour
200 g
2 tablespoons
★Baking powder
2 teaspoons
Hon dashi stock (granules)
2 1/2 teaspoons
1 to 2 teaspoons
a small amount
Nagaimo yam (grated)
300 g unpeeled
Soy sauce
2 teaspoons
Milk (or water)
300 ml
Okonomiyaki solid ingredients
200 g
Pork (any cut)
200 g
Spring onion


1. To start with, use a big bowl. Mix ingredients marked ★ together with a hand mixer. Grate the nagaimo potatoes and add.
2. Mix the bowl contents every time you add a ★ ingredient. Add rest of the ingredients and the mixture is done!
3. Next, finely chop the cabbage. Cut the pork into bite-sized pieces, finely chop the spring onion, cut the chikuwa and mushrooms to your liking.
4. Put all the cut ingredients into the mixture from Step 2 and mix.
5. Finally, fry in a frying pan or on an electric griddle, and you're done!
6. For solid ingredients, you can add mochi cut into small pieces or scatter on top. Dice the onion and garnish with bean sprouts.
7. For people with milk allergies, use water!!
8. This time I used "Yamato Potato" from Gunma prefecture. It's gooey centre was delicious!!

Story Behind this Recipe

My mother always used milk instead of water to make okonomiyaki. They're the best homemade!! We never eat okonomiyaki outside.
