Steaming Hot Ginger Flavored Simmered Daikon Radish and Atsuage (Thick Fried Tofu)

This is a steaming hot simmered dish with lots of ginger flavor! The flavors penetrate the daikon radish and atsuage to make a delicious simmered dish.

Ingredients: Serves 4

Daikon radish
about 10 cm
Atsuage
1 pack
Green beans (optional)

☆ Thinly sliced ginger
4 slices
☆ Dashi stock mixed with water
400 ml
Dashi stock granules
1 teaspoon
☆ Sugar
1 tablespoon
☆ Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
☆ Sake
1 tablespoon
☆ Mirin
1 tablespoon

Steps

1. Cut the daikon radish into 1-2 cm wide slices, cut each slice in half and bevel the edges. Parboil the daikon for about 10 minutes.
2. Pour boiling water over the atsu-age to remove excess oil. Cut into 1 cm wide pieces.
3. Cut the green beans into 2-3 equal pieces.
4. Add the ☆ ingredients to a pot. Add the daikon radish and atsuage and bring to a boil.
5. When the daikon radish is soft enough, add the green beans and simmer for about 2 minutes. Tip: Please refer to the "Helpful Hints."
6. Transfer to plates and serve.
