Hanpen Fish Cakes and Shiso Leaves Rolled in Pork

Hanpen Fish Cakes and Shiso Leaves Rolled in Pork

It's way better than just fried hanpen; this is delicious!
The taste of shiso is great in this.

Ingredients: 4 servings

Thinly sliced pork
12 slices
Hanpen
1
Green shiso leaves
6 leaves
Umeboshi
2 to 3
Plain flour
as needed
Vegetable oil
as needed

Steps

1. Cut the shiso leaf vertically. Cut the hanpen in half, then continue cutting until you have 6 pieces. Mash the flesh of the umeboshi (salt-cured plum).
2. Lightly cover the pork in flour. Layer on the shiso, umeboshi, and hanpen and roll it up.
3. Heat oil in a pan. Line up the rolls, edge side down, and cook until browned.

Story Behind this Recipe

I've made various rolls, but I wanted to try something with the hanpen that I had in the fridge.
The shiso is really good in this, but miso paste might work, too.
