French Toast: The #1 Cafe Item

This recipe is based on the French toast I made during the 5 years I worked at a cafe. It was our most popular dish. I recommend you use fluffy, thickly sliced bread.

Ingredients: 1 serving

Sliced bread (loaf sliced into 6, approximately 2 cm thick)
2 slices
☆Milk
170 ml
☆ Sugar
3 tablespoons
☆ Egg
1
Margarine
As needed

Steps

1. Cut the bread into 4 pieces, and make slices into the surface of the bread. This will help the bread absorb the egg mixture.
2. Combine the ☆ ingredients - egg, milk and sugar, in a bowl and mix.
3. Put the bread in the bowl to soak up all the liquid. The amount shown in the photo is just about right. Allow it to sit for 3 minutes.
4. Heat margarine in a frying pan and then cook the bread over low medium heat until both sides have browned.
5. Remove from the heat, spread margarine on one side, and it's done.
