Heat vegetable oil in a pot and fry the beef over medium heat.
After the beef is cooked through, add the leek and fry quickly.
Add the ☆ seasonings and simmer over low to medium heat.
After the leeks have softened, turn off the heat.
[If you use fresh eggs] Whisk the eggs and pour into the pot at Step 6. Heat through to your desired hardness. Transfer to individual bowls over rice.
[If you use onsen-style poached eggs] Serve rice in individual bowls and top with the sukiyaki from Step 6. Make an indentation in the middle and drop the poached egg in the middle.
Sprinkle with shichimi spice.
Story Behind this Recipe
My family's favorite dish is Kansai-style sukiyaki and I wanted to make it easily. With this simplified version over rice, I have less washing to do afterward. I've made this often.
The dish is flavored strongly, so you can transform cheap beef into a delicious dish! You could use pork if you prefer!! (Sliced pork belly is recommended). I wanted to make this dish easily so I just used beef and Japanese leek, but add your favorite ingredients such as tofu, shirataki noodles, or fu wheat gluten.
